The first thing to know about me is that I’m a dad to two amazing children: a daughter, age 10, and a son, age 7. I have 50/50 custody, and a healthy co-parenting relationship with their mom. No baby mama drama here.
Also, I’m finishing up a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with the goal of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Mental Health Service Provider designation (LPC/MHSP). In other words, I’ll be a therapist when I graduate this December. In the meantime, I’m a massage therapist, which I like, but it’s not very intellectually stimulating, and more importantly, it doesn’t allow me to work virtually.
So between kids, school, and work, I stay busy. But that’s okay, because I have a plan…
My goal is to work remotely as a therapist and be able to show my children what life is like in different places in the world by living and traveling abroad for extended periods. I’d love to have a partner in that. If that person turns out to be you and you happen to have children, they would be welcome to join us, of course! Guatemala, Colombia, Vietnam, Portugal… where shall we go?
I love to travel. When I was 19 I went on a study abroad program to India, where I lived and studied in a Buddhist monastery for four months. During that time I had the opportunity to volunteer for a day at Mother Teresa’s mission in Kolkata, and yes, I met her!
When I graduated from college (I went to Middlebury), I backpacked around Asia for about six months, and I spent part of that time teaching English to Tibetan refugees in Dharamsala, India. I met the Dalai Lama there, and later carried letters and pictures of him to my students’ families in Tibet overland via the Karakoram Highway of Pakistan and Xinjiang, China. I’ve also lived for a time in France, Roatan (Honduras), Guatemala, Jackson Hole, Vermont, Baltimore, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. I grew up near Knoxville, TN, and eventually moved back. I love it here.
My Spanish is half decent, my French rusty. At one time I could travel in northern India using only Hindi and no English, but those days are long gone. I’ve also studied Tibetan but only remember how to ask for bread. I’m sure the languages would come back with practice.
Some of my passions include:
- Staying active — hitting the gym, Latin dancing, yoga, running (I just started back and it’s terrible), and hiking. I’d like to try paddle boarding as well.
- Exploring new ideas and perspectives
- Good food and spontaneous adventures
- Helping others and making a difference
I value honesty, empathy, and being fully present with the people who matter.
Other details: I’m 5’10” tall and own my house, car, and massage business. I am divorced and have been mostly single for over four years. I’m 52 years old, which is surprising even to me.
What about you… what experiences have made you who you are? What are you passionate about? And do you happen to dance salsa? Drop me a line.
Next up… what I’m looking for.
